Hookie Birthday Skiing

What's the best way to celebrate your birthday?  Play Hookie and go skiing with your 2 friends, that's what!!!  When Scott Terry called and asked if Aparri would be willing to go skiing with his daughter Livvy, their friend Ellie Seliger AND miss school... Even though it was the day they were celebrating Aparri's bday at school, Aparri didn't hesitate with her answer... YES  YES  YES !!!  Aparri has only been skiing  a few times, but this is fearless Aparri who will try anything and do anything...so off to the hills she went and had a blast all day!!!  What a birthday treat!!!  Clay was just sad he couldn't get work off and tag along...

Downtown at the Davenport

We’d heard about the Historical Downtown Davenport Hotel ever since we were first in Spokane back in 2007, but had never stayed there. So Clay & Laura got a babysitter (thank you Linda Abrams - you are the best.  The kids LOVED her!! She even bought donuts...the kids were in heaven) and had a night away in downtown Spokane. The hotel was pretty classy & amazing, and hanging out in downtown Spokane in the evening with just ‘us’ was a lot of fun.  We ate dinner at a back shop mom & pop Thai restaurant, checked out some shops, and then decided to check out the local comedy club show... yeah, not a good idea.  Definitely wasn't G rated, or even PG...so we got some overpriced candy and headed out of there FAST, poor Clay didn't even get to eat his nachos!!  So we decided to explore downtown instead...  One recommendation would be to not visit the Amtrak station at midnight, although it was interesting to watch two homeless men almost get into a fight over whose turf it was.  We were running away and laughing so hard - it is hard to do both of those things at the same time!!!  The next morning we enjoying talking in front of the fire without interruption!!! Then we walked around Riverfront park, bought a old school retro Nintendo game console that we thought the kids would like, and ate Mod Pizza, of course!

The House of the Lord

2 days after his ordination, it was a wonderful experience to be able to go and do baptisms at the Spokane Temple with Preston for the first time. He did awesome, asked questions, and it was great to go as a family.

Family Ski Day @ Lookout

First day back to school after winter break...but the kids aren't in school, they are on the mountain...hmm??   We have been trying to schedule a day to go skiing as a family and with work schedules and this and that, we could never make it happen...but when Clay had the 1st day back to school day off  - we debated on the situation and said... OFF TO THE SLOPES!!!  Kids all  played hookie and added an extra day onto their winter vacation!  We went back to one of our favorite hills... Lookout Pass.  All the kids were excited even little Erica!!  She was a trooper and loved tackling the bunny slope.  She was doing awesome with Dad, so we thought...lets go up the big hill. Laura had found a little harness that worked great!!  Detric, Aparri, Preston, and CJ were experts and cruising down the hills.  After a great morning of skiing, everyone's confidence was up and doing awesome...and then after lunch...oh after lunch.  Clay took the big kids off to do the big hill and Laura thought she could handle Erica on the bunny hill...oh, I think not..she had problems... her skies would get packed with snow and stop sliding so they would literally stop in her tracks and knock Erica down every time.  After a great morning and doing awesome with Dad...Erica was getting frustrated and would say, "Stop knocking me down Mom!"  She was ready to go down the hill alone - Laura was holding her back, but Laura didn't have the heart to let go of her 2 year old and say..."good luck...meet ya at the bottom" even though the way things were going she probably would have done a lot better without Laura.  After an hour of agony...Erica stopped and said, "I want Dad".  I don't blame that poor girl.  So we just sat at the bottom of the hill freezing waiting for Dad so she could ski...and poor thing fell asleep crying to "ski more...ski more" before Dad made it back to take her.  Next year...always next year.  And we will have to figure out Laura's ski problem..shesh.  Both those girls were frustrated and DONE by the end of the day. Clay & Laura were just glad that at the end of the day All in all everybody else was happy, and not wearing a cast.  So we called it a WIN!     Kids were thoroughly worn out which led to a very ‘peaceful’ ride home in the truck.

Due to faulty equipment, Laura found herself the most comfortable on the chair lift taking selfies with the kids on this trip!!!  She was having difficulties with her skies today so she spent a good part of the afternoon dragging poor Erica down the bunny hill....or was Erica dragging her? Then, the camera got too cold and stopped working so she couldn't even take pictures by the afternoon!!!   Oh such troubles!

Pictures & Playing @ Park

Becky wanted family pictures... snow family pictures... well... with the weather we have been having we were going to have to drive quite a ways to get it...so we settled with Liberty Lake park.
The kids are all bummed because of the lack of snow we have had this season... but I guess that's just the way it goes some years...some times you get it and sometimes you don't.  I guess it is still early...we might still get some snow!

Proud Priesthood Parents

A few days ago President Nelson announced that the time the youth will graduate from primary will no longer be based on their birthday, but rather they will be eligible to attend young men and young women and attend the temple starting Jan.1 of the year they turn 12!  This change also applies to other advancements in the priesthood...Teachers Quorum Jan 1 of the year they turn 14 and attend dances, and then Priests the year they turn 16 (but they still have to wait until 16th birthday to date...they didn't change that one!)  The same advancements apply to the young women!  Our family participated in the advancement this year with both Preston turning 12 in April and CJ turning 14 in March.  They were both ordained on January 1 to their new quorums.  Brayden, Becky, Max, and Dane came up and were there for the event!  Brother Crane was nice enough to come to our home and participate with us.  It was a neat special night for our whole family!  We now have 3 priesthood holders in our home.  We are so blessed.

There may have been some bonding laughter associated with the night!  It may have been caused by tippy toe accusations, height insecurities, hugs, love, and happiness.  I'm not going to confirm or deny anyone's height or use of tippy toes...but this much I do know... those smiles are definitely real.

Overwhelmed with Love

We decided to take a last minute trip to Tri Cities and have some New Years fun!  We were able to spend time with the Graggs and the Hords in Nana and Papa's House (they just left for their mission to Las Vegas).  We watched movies, played games, and enjoyed being together!  ALL the kids loved on Marshall... poor kid was a little overwhelmed with the LOVE!!!
