Library of Congress is located in the Thomas Jefferson Bldg.Back in 1814 the British burned the Capitol and with it the Congressional Library.
Jefferson had acquired an extensive personal library which became the new Library of Congress which consisted of about 6,487 volumes. The architecture was massive, beautiful, and awe inspiring. We loved just being in this building. Laura loved that every archway profound quotes that you could read and contemplate.
There is a underground passage that you can take from the capital to the Library of Congress. Every federal bldg has high security before you are allowed to enter...scanners, guards who check bags, etc. a lot of them you can't take food or water of any kind.
On Sunday, we met a man who works in the Library of Congress...he told us that the Book of Mormon is 1 of 2 books on permanent display in the library of Congress (the other book is the Gutenberg Bible). So we went back and saw one of the original Book of Mormon on display. We even had to get a library of congress library card to get to the rare collections area.
