When they asked if anyone in the crowd would like to compete in a game show and had a flexible schedule for the next few days...Laura immediately raised her hand!!! YES, please!! She had no idea what she was getting into but was ready to play!! Even when they started dressing her up in big hats and flowery jackets..she was still clueless. It wasn't until an NBC employee walked by and said, "Oh...the Kentucky Derby" that it rang a bell!!! Laura got really nervous..she doesn't know anything about the Kentucky Derby and didn't have time to look anything up either...oh boy!!! This should be fun!!
Laura was paired up with Jenna Bush Hager (as the horse) and Roxanne was paired up with Meredith Vieira. They were answering Horse Trivia questions to compete for an all expense paid trip to the Kentucky Derby in a private jet with Bobby Flay!!! Let the races begin!!As it turns out, Laura didn't know too much about horse trivia (but neither did Roxanne) and can't lip read Jenna's answers either. In the end, they were tied - both having answered 2 questions correctly... so it came down to the last question for the win...and Roxanne got it!
Even though Laura didn't win the trip, she had a great time living her dream of being on tv, getting an inside tour of NBC's Today show, and getting some great consolation prizes... 2 Kentucky Derby bags, Sentient Jet blankets and hats, Kentucky Derby glasses, and a $250 gift certificate to Bobby Flay's New York restaurant. It was epic! Plus...now that Roxanne and her husband were off to Kentucky, they had to cut their New York trip short, so they gave us all their New York tickets - A Mets game, Book of Mormon on Broadway, and a movie panel with Robert De Niro. We ended up only using the Mets game tickets, but that was so nice of them to pass them on!
