When did Halloween become such a huge holiday? Seriously the whole month, week, day...it can be soooo busy and so overwhelming. With the trunk or treats, the school carnivals, the parties - school, work, and church for every kid, the costumes, the decorating, the pumpkin decorating contests, the pumpkin carving contests, the field trips....oh it is HUGE now. Usually Laura is kinda a scrooge when it comes to some of the Halloween overload - but this year, Laura was actually grateful for it. Poor Erica was sick over the actual October 31st Halloween trick or treating - so sad, , but it was actually ok because we had been to so many other things, she didn't feel like she missed out on everything! Poor kid had a high fever for about 3 days...she was one sick fairy! Laura even gave her the option to dress up and go to just one or two houses to trick or treat - but she refused. that's when you know your kid is legitimately sick skip candy and dress up- 2 things Erica loves.
The kids costumes this year were fantastic. Preston and his friend Nolan dressed up as characters from Monte Python and the Holy Grail movie, CJ was a politician, Aparri was a dancer, Detric was an astronaut & Skeleton, and Erica was a fairy. Clay and Laura even dressed up for the trunk or treat as Napoleon Dynamite and the Cat in the Hat. CJ decided not to go trick or treating this year - but did a great job at decorating our porch and scarying away lots of people as he and Dallin handed out candy... Laura and Clay didn't complain too much - he was out in the cold happily handing out the candy, while Clay was out trick or treating with Detric and Laura was snuggling on the couch with a sick Erica. Beggars can't be choosers- I guess we will allow him to scare away innocent children - oh boy!
