Divide and Conquer

There were just too many things to do in Seattle for us to be able to tackle as a whole family, so we decided to split up for a day to get everybody the experiences that they wanted. Aparri, CJ, and Erica wanted to go visit the Seattle Aquarium, while Preston and Detric wanted to go check out the Boeing Flight Museum. 

Bungee Jumping off the Space Needle

 

Ok...maybe I should be a little more specific... we all VR Bungee Jumped off the Space Needle!!!  Down in the gift shop of the Space Needle you could strap on a VR (virtual reality) headset and bungee jump off of the building,.  So when there was no line and no cost...we ALL said...why not???  Let's BUNGEE!!!  I think Preston was the most excited to do this.  (He is going through a VR phase this winter & spring), but we all enjoyed our 30 seconds of thrill!!!

Glass Bottom Floor

We all had a lot of fun with the glass-bottomed floor (Holy cow...a little eerie peering down at the ground directly under you..ok a LONG way under you, and you're just standing on a glass floor) The fact that the entire top rotated around while you're standing on a glass bottom floor was pretty awesome too. The kids would put one foot on the part of the building that rotates, and the other foot on the part that doesn’t rotate, and they would see how long they could stand without falling over, doing the splits, getting stepped on or getting yelled at.  It was a wild juggle!!!

Space Needle

The first thing that we did when we got to Seattle was head straight for the Space Needle. It was an amazing view of the surrounding area, and the kids had a blast running around and checking things out. Even CJ, who is not very enthusiastic about heights,   seemed to enjoy himself.It was fun seeing how a lot of the surrounding buildings had things on the roofs, gardens, designed landscapes and other artistic things for spectators high up to find and enjoy.  Can you see the spiders?  Aparri enjoyed putting her hand "on the other side" of the glass...rebel!!!

Cabin on the Lake

We found there are cabins that you can rent in Seattle right on a lake and a little secluded. We were able to get one for this trip, now if only we could find it...man it was confusing!!!  We finally found it and it was a blast to stay there. It’s nice to have a house/cabin to stay in with a big family instead of a small hotel room.  We let the kids pick out ANY cereal they wanted...they thought that was pretty sweet... and believe me, their cereal choices were some pretty "sweet" too...packed with who knows how much sugar...yikes..

 There was also an indoor pool (which was Detric's top priority) so when it came to our last night at the cabin and we had to choose  to either eat dinner or swim, we knew we had to choose swim... even if that meant abandoning the restaurant we had just picked out for dinner and tell the waitor...sorry we are going swimming instead.  It was worth it though...Detric was a happy man. The cabin was a great Seattle Lodging choice.. the kids had fun running around outside by the lake and hanging out by the fire pit.. Just something a little different that adds to the adventure.

Phase 2 - Seattle

Do you know how hard it is to please all 5 children?  5 different ideas, 5 different priorities, 5 different personalities, 5 different voices.   So while planning Spring Break 2019 we were bombarded with all sorts of differences of opinions.  In the end, I think we did pretty good planning, executing, and making everyone happy...even when there were last minute changes that we had to work in... ( Clay's Uncle Mark passed away and the funeral was scheduled for the tailend of spring break...) Spring Break was pretty much divided into 3 phases.... Phase 1 was Downtown Spokane and Captain Marvel (priority CJ), Phase 2 was Seattle (which everyone was excited about but everyone had different priorities about the activities), and Phase 3 was Idaho for the funeral.  

Whew...it was fun, exhausting, and memorable.  So glad we did it!

We packed up the van, loaded up 5 children and headed for Seattle and that's no joke!! We knew that the trip was going to be a good one even before we got into the Seattle city limit area because when we were looking for a lunch stop, we found a Mod Pizza, which tends to make everybody happy. Even the kids who were insisting that we go to McDonalds seemed to enjoy it. 

Let Spring Break Begin

For a beginning of spring break treat, we took the kiddos downtown for a little bit of fun. First stop was the downtown Spokane Mall Cinema to watch Captain Marvel in 3D with the comfy seats, followed by the Spokane ice skating rink, or ice ribbon……..just without the ice. The kids had a lot of fun zipping around the ribbon on their scooters, ripsticks, and roller blades and showing off their ‘mad skills’ in the downtown.
